Hosur (Tamil: ஓசூர் (pronounced as Ho-soor) is a Town and a municipality in Krishnagiri district, Tamil Nadu. It is a taluk of Krishnagiri district and is located just about 40 kilometres south-east of Bangalore. This used to be an underdeveloped district once and came into the limelight in the 1980’s when TamilNadu government planned for a SIPCOT (Small Industries Promotion Corporation of TamilNadu) in Hosur.
I know this place from 1996 and happened to watch the positive changes in the growth graph for the last 12 years. I visited Hosur for the first time in August 1996. Thanks to Adhiyamaan Engineering College, which offered Chemical Engineering (which was my dream career, then). I must confess, this town is better than Bangalore for its pleasant weather, unpolluted air and less traffic.
I must say, the 4 years of my stay at Hosur is phenomenal. Though we had issues like Ragging, Problems with local rowdies and college strike sessions, the amount of energy and experience this town gave to me (21 year old boy, then) was amazing. Post engineering, inspite of me moving to Chennai, Pondicherry, Chennai again and now Bangalore, Hosur seems always pleasant to me. I always dreamt to have a home at Hosur and settle in Hosur during the last days of my Life. Hoping…
Will you believe?
This town
1. Accounts for 80% of Rose Exports of India.
2. Accounts for 5% of the total Mango production in TamilNadu, which makes Krishnagiri Dt, #1 district for Mango cultivation.
3. Houses more than 750 industries, including the big names like TVS Motors, Ashok Leyland, Titan Industries, Exide, Godrej Saralee and Gabriel Shocks.
4. Will also house a Special Economic Zone for Software companies soon.
5. For information, Thorapally village near Hosur is the birth place of the first Governer General of Independent India, Rajaji.
Ok.. Now.. Why all of a sudden, HOSUR PURANAM…?
Today’s Mint Paper is responsible for this write up.

Hi
I was part and parcel of Hosur since 1970 to 1992.What a fantastic climate then — a small hamlet like area with Chandrasoodeswar temple ,Mathigiri cattleform, , small railway station, friendly police and revenue officials –what not — Very nostalgic about everything A big hmmm now after seeing the present chaotic and confused town
yet i am proud to say that i am from Hosur, a Hosurean
Hi Peevee, something in common here….I fell in love with Hosur in 1992 …heaps of custard apple (my fav fruit)laid on a mat by the highway..a little girl was vending 2 for1 rupee. Gradually made friends with Gopal, Ranjan am a frequent visitor now..just Love the breeze and the horizon. My punchline for Hosur is ‘ The best suited place for horticulture in India is on the industrial world map.’ CHEERS
